BOOM MIINI by MIIEGO - Wireless Headphones
BOOM MIINI : With the MIIEGO Boom Miini, the Danish manufacturer offers wireless sports headphones that are characterized by a compact, foldable design and are water and sweat-resistant according to IPX5. While a 3-button remote is used to control the device, the integrated microphone of the on-ear model ensures clear speech intelligibility when making calls.
A special feature of the MIIEGO Boom Miini, which is available in black and white, is the exchangeable ear pads, of which two different versions are supplied. An everyday variant that noticeably reduces ambient noise is pre-installed. For sports activities, on the other hand, breathable mesh ear pads can be used, which, according to the manufacturer, can be washed in the washing machine at 30 degrees and shield less sound due to their more permeable material. The design-related heat development of the closed system is also lower in the mesh variant.
It was noticeable that the fit of the on-ears for sports headphones is rather loose, which on the one hand offers comfort, especially since the headphones are real lightweights and weigh only 155 grams. However, the headphones can also slip during sports, especially with fast, jerky movements or stronger vibrations such as jumping. However, there is enough support for a relaxed endurance run. The size adjustment of the headband covers a range from larger to quite delicate head shapes, so that young people can also wear the sports model without any problems.
battery life
The sports headphones can be used for a good 23 hours per charge at high volume. The MIIEGO Boom Miini are fully charged in just under two hours, with a micro-USB connection on the right side of the shell being available as a charging socket. On the other hand, the more modern USB-C version and a quick charge function have been omitted. The battery level display on iOS devices also offers little orientation, since from a level of 50 percent only a listening time of around four hours remains. The advantage, however, is that the on-ears can be used wired as an alternative to wireless operation via the 3.5 mm audio input on the left shell. A corresponding mini-jack cable with a length of 110 centimeters is included for this purpose. A USB charging cable is also included with the headphones.
device control
The MIIEGO Boom Miini support the Bluetooth standard 5.0 and offer a range of 15 meters in the open. Inside buildings, on the other hand, two to three rooms can be bridged at a distance of up to ten meters. The headphones can be paired by pressing and holding the power button on the right side, which switches the system on and puts it into pairing mode. Once a wireless connection has been established, the button controls playback and is used to answer and end phone calls. There are also two separate buttons for volume control. However, these are not assigned as intended according to the manual, but exactly the other way around: in this respect, simply pressing the plus button jumps forward to the next track and pressing the minus button jumps back, while the volume can be adjusted by holding it down. As a result, the control is quite erratic, which allows the playback level to be turned up or down quickly. However, finer gradations must be made on the device itself. Pressing the minus button twice also activates the language assistant. What is missing, on the other hand, is a transparency mode that amplifies ambient noise. This would be a desirable function, at least when wearing everyday ear pads, due to the existing insulation properties, in order to be able to better perceive the environment if necessary.
Speech intelligibility when telephoning
In a quieter environment, the sports earphones are excellent for making calls, since your own voice is transmitted very cleanly and clearly. The other person can also be understood perfectly. However, wind and ambient noise are not attenuated by the microphone technology, so they affect speech intelligibility, which is not a drawback given the price range.
audio codec
The MIIEGO Boom Miini does not use higher-quality codecs such as aptX or the AAC format, so the Bluetooth standard SBC has to be used. This can become noticeable in films and computer or cell phone games through a noticeable offset between image and sound, since the headphones do not offer any latency optimization in the form of a gaming or low-latency mode.
sound
When using the everyday ear cushions, the bass reproduction of the sports earphones is quite rich and massive as well as a bit queasy and dull, since precision is lost in the lower regions. On the other hand, the warm, quite dense sound can benefit from an appealingly clear mid-range representation, which makes voices easy to understand, which also ensures good entertainment with podcasts and audio books. It's a pity that the lively treble reproduction drops off in the upper register, which makes the bass-heavy sound appear rather dark and simple.
The breathable mesh ear pads of the MIIEGO Boom Miini, on the other hand, convey a much brighter hearing impression with a more spacious display. The bass reproduction sounds much more defined and slimmer, but doesn't reach that far down, so that with hip-hop, electro and co., a developed deep bass has to be dispensed with. Apart from that, the playback seems powerful and punchy. Especially since the middle and high-frequency range gains in details, since the cramped sound image expands and literally clears up. From higher volume settings, however, the existing presence in the upper regions can also be perceived as a little cheeky and turn into sharpness at higher playback levels.
The listeners do not offer a sound control via app that would enable targeted, individual adjustment. In leisure mode, however, you can weigh up which ear pad variant suits your own listening habits better, which at least brings with it a certain tonal flexibility.
If you are looking for light, handy Bluetooth headphones for sports that are weatherproof, you could find them in the MIIEGO Boom Miini. The interchangeable ear cushions and very good speech intelligibility when making calls are plus points. However, compromises have to be made with the audio codec, since no higher-quality alternatives to the SBC standard are supported. The sports headphones also have to do without a sound adjustment via app and a transparency mode.
